About the role

This hands-on field role involves working on substation projects and related high-voltage infrastructure in power plants, industrial facilities, and renewable energy sites. You’ll perform critical installations, inspections, and troubleshooting alongside experienced professionals who value safety, quality, and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Complete tasks with attention to detail, consistently delivering high-quality work that meets or exceeds industry standards
  • Use basic tools such as hypresses and hydraulic pipe benders under supervision
  • Assist with fabrication by learning to operate magnetic drills and hydraulic bus punches
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and promptly report any unsafe conditions or hazards
  • Support daily operations through general labor duties and other responsibilities assigned by supervisors
  • Engage in hands-on training and development through classes, homework, and mentorship opportunities
  • Contribute to team problem-solving, decision-making, and goal achievement
  • Collaborate with team members to drive results and maintain a positive, productive work environment
  • Follow PPE protocols and safety procedures while working around high-voltage equipment, at heights, or in confined spaces

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving history
  • Willingness to travel up to 90% based on project needs
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
  • Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs. and performing physically demanding work for extended periods
  • Able to work outdoors in varying conditions and environments
  • Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing) for safety and documentation

Qualifications

  • Prior experience working within substation and power plant/manufacturing environments
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, circuitry, and safety protocols, ensuring adherence to industry standards
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints
  • Proficient in the use of hand and power tools, lifting equipment, and safety gear

Skills

Bonus Points For

  • An associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Systems, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Previous experience with utility companies or substation contractors
  • Familiarity with isolated phase bus systems, grounding systems, and relay protection schemes
  • Completion of trade school, technical college, or skilled trade certifications
