Substation Technician C (Oncor)

About the role

This position is a non-exempt role responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment and systems. It involves working in confined spaces and elevated work areas, and may require long hours during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Works safely while performing tasks such as concrete foundations, buswork, airbreak/hookstick switch work, control cable terminations, capacitor bank installations, transformers, regulators, and circuit breakers.
• Maintains Company vehicles, test equipment, and tools in good condition.
• Responsible for working with energized high voltage systems, requiring skill and care to ensure safety.

Requirements

• Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
• Must have or be capable of obtaining a Commercial Drivers' License.
• Must supply own personal hand tools and safety toed work boots.
• Must be capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs and working in confined spaces/areas.
• Must be capable of working independently or with others.
• Must be capable of learning to operate various types of heavy equipment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2-4 years working knowledge of 525 kv and below substation equipment, apparatus, and wiring.
• Knowledge of substation structural drawings (elevations, plan views, section views, grounding details, and foundation plans).
• Willingness to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested.
• 90% travel required.

Skills

• Skilled in operating various types of heavy equipment.
• Ability to learn and operate new equipment as needed.
