Substation Operations Supervisor
About the role
This position is responsible for the reliable and safe operation of the electrical system and essential equipment within the service area. Operations Supervisor manages crews to assure work is coordinated and completed safely, efficiently and on schedule. Operations Supervisor ensures compliance with safety rules, Company policies and procedures, as well as job specifications and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the daily activities of assigned crew(s).
- Prioritize, schedule and assign work to achieve business goals.
- Ensure tailboard meetings are held and are effective.
- Safeguard self as well as fellow workers and the public in the course and scope of business by following safety rules set forth in the Company’s Accident Prevention Manual.
- Assure that safety meetings are held regularly and effectively.
- Address unsafe practices or situations and take appropriate action.
- Cookordinate between various CenterPoint Energy (CNP) departments and various external agencies to assure timely completion of work and provide technical expertise in outage coordination matrixed to Real Time Operations as needed.
- Set the standard for crews regarding customer service.
- Administer company policy within area work groups.
- Manage employee performance, encourage, motivate, coach, train, hold subordinates accountable and resolve employee conflicts.
- Manage resources including budget, equipment, tools and instruments.
- Personally exhibit behavior consistent with all CenterPoint Energy’s core values, policies and procedures.
- Comply and support the Company, its management and policies.
Requirements
- Requires a high school education or the equivalent knowledge and sixty (60) hours of college level courses in electrical and/or electronics engineering/technology or related technical discipline. In lieu of college hours, may substitute two (2) years of electric utility substation or military work experience.
- Must have served in a Head Electrician or Master Technician position for at least two (2) years, a System Analyst or Substation Construction Coordinator position for at least three (3) years, or possess equivalent experience in electrical substation operations, maintenance, construction, or system operations within a utility, industrial, military, or related environment.
- A combination of relevant experience must total at least three (3) years.
- Consistent success in a relief operations supervisor, team lead, or similar leadership role is preferred.
- Able to communicate effectively with field employees, management and others, both orally and in writing.
- Able to express opinions effectively and convey information in an appropriate manner.
- Able to listen actively and convey understanding of the questions, instructions or comments of others.
- Able to use personal computer software proficiently, such as word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail and working knowledge of SAP.
- Able to work with technical and non-technical personnel to gather and exchange information, resolve issues and plan activities.
- Able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of emergency response processes, construction, service and Operation and Maintenance manuals.
- Able to follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by the company.
Qualifications
