Substation Fiber Technician

Job Purpose

Immediate full-time position for experienced Fiber Splicing Technician. Candidate will be responsible for the terminating, splicing, documenting and testing of all fiber optic lines within the customer’s network.

Responsibilities

• Perform fiber tests with OTDR’s, light source and meters
• Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds and tests fiber optic equipment to standards
• Install fiber optic equipment and patch and panels
• Work knowledge of fiber optics
• Basic knowledge of networking
• Proficient in the operation of all related fiber tools and equipment
• Terminate, splice and install a variety of fiber optic connectors and enclosures
• Able to troubleshoot damaged fiber effectively and efficiently
• Perform fiber tests with OTDRs, light source and meters

Qualifications

• Associates or Technical Degree preferred
• CWDM and DWDM experience preferred
• Experience in carrier technologies a plus

Requirements

• Five years’ experience and experience with EXFO fiber equipment preferred
• Must be willing to travel
• Current fiber optic certifications preferred
