Substation Electrician
Location: North Fort Myers, FL
Pay
Hourly wages up to $54.64, $10,000 sign-on bonus, and $15,000 relocation bonus.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. This position requires on-call standby and irregular hours, including extended work during emergencies (e.g., hurricanes) with shifts exceeding 12 hours per day for multiple consecutive days or weeks.

About the Role
LCEC provides reliable, cost-competitive electricity to over 250,000 customers across a five-county service territory in Southwest Florida. This position is responsible for the installation and maintenance of substation and distribution equipment. Storm response and recovery duties are a condition of employment to maintain critical services during emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Perform assignments, directives, schedules, and programs as assigned by the substation supervisor, coordinator, or lead electrician.
- Execute all phases of substation construction, including:
- Reading and interpreting schematic diagrams and construction drawings
- Constructing foundations and erecting structures
- Installing electrical bus, switches, breakers, transformers, voltage regulators, capacitor banks, circuit switchers, AC/DC systems, conduit, and cable raceway
- Installing ground grid systems, pulling and terminating cables, and installing control, metering, and relay panels
- Perform all phases of substation maintenance, including:
- Adjusting switches and checking electrical connections and grounds
- Sampling and testing oil, servicing and inspecting equipment, and maintaining AC/DC systems
- Updating substation equipment records and troubleshooting mechanical/electrical equipment
- Conducting breaker, regulator, and transformer electrical testing, and working with gas, hydraulic, pneumatic, and stored energy systems
- Reading and understanding wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and the National Electrical Code
- Gather and record information for all serviced, repaired, or tested electrical equipment.
- Perform monthly inspections and update records for reporting.
- Perform switching on equipment at all voltages as directed by system operations, following LCEC practices.
- Ensure work adheres to LCEC standards and safety rules.
- Work on energized equipment using rubber gloves, sleeves, and hot sticks.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies, coordinate repairs, and restore service promptly following outages.
- Maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers at all levels, ensuring productive communication and timely information sharing.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (required).
- Completion of a certified substation apprentice program or minimum 4+ years of experience as a journeyman substation electrician (required).
- Valid Florida Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 60 days (required).
- Familiarity with personal computers and email (required).
- Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including:
- Heavy lifting (frequently up to 50 lbs), working on ladders, operating vehicles/equipment, and using electrical hand tools
- Hand digging, working at night, and extended hours
- Climbing in/out of bucket trucks
- Willingness to work in inclement weather (extreme heat, thunderstorms, occasional cool temperatures) and occasionally indoors for substation shop work.
