Responsibilities
- Overhaul and maintain silicon rectifiers and associated auxiliary equipment.
- Install and maintain various types of oil, air, and vacuum circuit breakers, motor-generator sets, and other duties considered Electricians' work.
- Read and follow schematics, diagrams, and blueprints.
- Troubleshoot and test wiring, relays, and control circuits using various tools/meters.
- Provide protection for contractors and force account personnel from hazards within the Substation and along the Right of Way.
Requirements
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent (GED or TASC) approved by a State's Department of Education or recognized accredited organization.
- Four years of electrician experience.
- The ability to read electrical schematics, use volt/ohmmeters, troubleshoot electrical circuits.
- The ability to climb high voltage racks.
- Pass substation electrician qualifying examination.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- AAS Degree in Electrical Technology or Electrical Engineering.

If hired prior to 9/24/14: 70% - 1st 240 days of compensated service ($29.821) 75% - 2nd 240 days of compensated service ($31.951) 80% - 3rd 240 days of compensated service ($34.081) 90% - 4th 240 days of compensated service ($38.341) 95% - 5th 240 days of compensated service ($40.471) 100% - After 1,200 days of compensated service ($42.601)

Other Information
- Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MTA drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
- LIRR: In addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the position, the selection process may include but is not limited to, a pre-screening assessment (i.e., physical, written, and/or practical evaluation) and interview. Candidates forfeit further consideration in the process if they fail to participate in any step of the process when scheduled. Make-up dates/times will not be given.
- LIRR employee applicants must be in their current position for the 12 months immediately preceding the close date of this posting and must possess a satisfactory work history, including attendance and discipline record. A record of more than ten sick days without medical documentation in two of the last three years is considered unsatisfactory attendance.
- A medical examination and safety-sensitive drug/alcohol test may also be required.
