Responsibilities
- Create, edit, and modify detailed CAD drawings for substation projects using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Apply established CAD standards, practices, and procedures consistently when creating and updating drawings.
- Collaborate in a team environment with designers, engineers, and other drafters to support substation design deliverables.
- Cook, store, and retrieve drawings and related documents to maintain organized project records.
- Work with a high level of precision and accuracy to produce clear, error-free design drawings.
- PLOT, PRINT, and check drawings for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to project requirements.
- Utilize basic mathematical skills and analytical abilities to interpret design information and apply it correctly in drawings.
- Use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat/Bluebeam to support documentation and project communication.
- Participate actively in learning new tools and methods to improve drafting quality and efficiency.
- Take on additional drafting and project support duties as assigned to meet team and project needs.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of drafting or CAD experience in substation design or closely related design work.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation for creating and modifying design drawings.
- Basic mathematical skills and analytical abilities to support accurate drafting and design work.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately and thoroughly on complex drawings.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to manage tasks and follow through on responsibilities.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player in a collaborative environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience using Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam for viewing, marking up, and managing drawings and documents.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn and grow in drafting, CAD tools, and substation design.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Drafting and Design, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3D modeling experience using tools such as Revit, Civil 3D, or Inventor.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor and other Autodesk tools.
- Experience with MicroStation, Revit, Civil 3D, or similar CAD platforms.
- Substation physical design experience.
- Experience with SDS (Substation Design Suite).
- General drafting and CAD experience, including blueprint reading and interpretation.
- Good knowledge of industry and technology trends specific to substations.
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code.
- Ability to adapt to evolving CAD standards and design practices in the power and utility sector.
