Substation Crew - All Positions (Foreman/A, B , C Lineman/Operator/Groundman

About the role

Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks entire Substation Crews (Foreman/A Lineman/B Lineman/C Lineman/Operator/Groundman).

Successful candidates will possess existing experience working together as a construction crew. Preference may also be given to candidates who are able to bring along additional qualified candidates to form entire work crews.

Responsibilities

• Able/willing to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
• Able/willing to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
• Able/willing to work Overtime, when required.
• Have total commitment to safety and compliance.
• Provide direct supervision & technical guidance to Linemen, Equipment Operators and Groundmen performing maintenance & construction on underground utility projects.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting site plans, construction prints/drawings and scopes of work.
• Proficient in safe operation of heavy equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, mini-excavators, etc.
• Effectively communicate, demonstrate and enforce requirements & best practices.
• Possess advanced understanding of compliance with OSHA Shoring & Trenching standards.
• Effectively lead and record Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) meetings.
• Possess a quality work ethic and be committed to optimal Customer Service.
• Responsible for coordinating essential personnel on-site for the project to include crew mobilization, subcontractors, traffic control, etc.
• Possess comfort level with using new technologies (mobile devices/apps) or show willingness to learn.
• Efficiently manage all supplies, materials and equipment necessary to complete assigned work.
• Communicate directly with General Foremen, Superintendents, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Line Crews and other project personnel as required.
• Understand and follow detailed construction schedules.
• Possess High School Diploma or Equivalency.
• Able to coordinate & collaborate effectively with multiple levels within company...

• Must be able to communicate effectively, demonstrate & encourage teamwork skills and able to understand, comprehend, and follow directions in the workplace.

Requirements

• Able to perform rigorous physical labor as required. Including but not limited to digging, rigging, lifting, rescue operations, etc.
• Able to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
• Possess working knowledge of OSHA Shoring & Trenching Standards.
• Proficient in all aspects of working with energized enclosures.
• Possess professional demeanor and interact in positive way with fellow crew members, general public and customer representatives.
• Possess basic knowledge of proper techniques for pulling in UG utility lines.
• Possess comprehensive knowledge of operations in terminating UG conductors & secondaries.
• Possess proficiency in operating Digger Derrick, Backhoe, Trencher, Mini-Excavator, Knuckle Crane, etc.
• Possess familiarity with induced voltage.
• Possess capability to lead crew in preparation/installation of pad mount transformers & enclosures, in absence of Crew Foreman or with minimal supervision.
• Possess capability to plan safe work based on a job print or work order.
• Possess capability to properly install and remove mechanical jumpers.

• Possess familiarity with induced voltage.
• Possess capability to learn distribution voltages on a circuit.
• Possess capability to learn to understand and read blueprints.
• Possess capability to assist with inspecting and recognizing structural problems.
• Possess capability to assist in troubleshooting.
• Possess capability to work productively from an aerial device.
• Possess capability to obtain knowledge of wire pulling techniques.
• Possess capability to assist with installing all types of compression connections.
• Possess capability to work in confined spaces.
• Possess capability to properly install and remove PPE and cover up.
• Possess capability to properly inspect rubber goods, covers and PPE.
• Possess capability to identify different types of materials used in UG line work.
• Possess capability to understand minimum approach distance.
• Possess capability to understand flag and tag procedures.
• Possess capability to perform basic bucket rescue/escape.
• Possess capability to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so.
• Possess capability to tie various lineman knots.
• Possess capability to make up and use a hand line.
• Possess capability to understand grounding procedures.
• Possess capability to understand principles of proper equipment set-up.
• Possess capability to identify different types of materials used in line work.
• Possess capability to understand minimum approach distance.
