Substation Crew - All Positions (Foreman/A, B , C Lineman/Operator/Groundman
About the role
Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks entire Substation Crews (Foreman/A Lineman/B Lineman/C Lineman/Operator/Groundman). Successful candidates will possess existing experience working together as a construction crew. Preference may also be given to candidates who are able to bring along additional qualified candidates to form entire work crews.

After 6 months of employment, employees are eligible to apply for entry into SUI's DOL Certified 4-Year Apprenticeship Program. (Must have a HS Diploma or equivalent and CDL.) Possession of a valid Class A CDL is HIGHLY PREFERRED. Those hired without a CDL may be required to obtain within 90 days of employment.

Qualifications
- Able to effectively communicate, demonstrate and enforce requirements & best practices.
- Possess advanced understanding of compliance with OSHA Shoring & Trenching standards.
- Be able to effectively lead and record Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) meetings.
- Be committed to optimal Customer Service.
- Manage all supplies, materials and equipment necessary to complete assigned work.
- Communicate directly with General Foremen, Superintendents, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Line Crews and other project personnel as required.
- Understand and follow detailed construction schedules.
- Able to perform rigorous physical labor as required.
- Able to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
- Possess working knowledge of OSHA Shoring & Trenching Standards.
- Proficient in all aspects of working with energized enclosures.
- Proficient in safe operation of heavy equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, mini-excavators, etc.
- Have a High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Skills
- Proficient in reading and interpreting site plans, construction prints/drawings and scopes of work.
- Proficient in safe operation of heavy equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, mini-excavators, etc.
- Proficient in all aspects of working with energized enclosures.
- Proficient in all aspects of heavy lifting and rigging.
- Familiar with induced voltage.
- Proficient in grounding procedures.
- Capable of working in confined spaces.
- Understands how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
- Understands proper use of phasing sticks.
- Capable of leading crew in preparation/installation of pad mount transformers & enclosures, in absence of Crew Foreman or with minimal supervision.
- Comprehensive knowledge of operations in terminating UG conductors & secondaries.
- Proficient at operation of Digger Derrick, Backhoe, Trencher, Mini-Excavator, Knuckle Crane, etc.
- Capable of safely installing and removing mechanical jumpers.
