Substation Crew - All Positions (Foreman/A, B , C Lineman/Operator/Groundman

About the role

Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks entire Substation Crews (Foreman/A Lineman/B Lineman/C Lineman/Operator/Groundman). Successful candidates will possess existing experience working together as a construction crew. Preference may also be given to candidates who are able to bring along additional qualified candidates to form entire work crews.

Requirements

Foreman

• Provide direct supervision & technical guidance to Linemen, Equipment Operators and Groundmen performing maintenance & construction on underground utility projects.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting site plans, construction prints/drawings and scopes of work.
• Proficient in safe operation of heavy equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, mini-excavators, etc.
• Have total commitment to Safety and Compliance.
• Effective communication, demonstration and enforcement of requirements & best practices.
• Advanced understanding of compliance with OSHA Shoring & Trenching standards.
• Effectively lead and record Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) meetings.
• Quality work ethic and commitment to optimal Customer Service.
• Coordinate essential personnel on-site for the project to include crew mobilization, subcontractors, traffic control, etc.
• Comfort level with using new technologies (mobile devices/apps) or willingness to learn.
• Efficiently manage all supplies, materials and equipment necessary to complete assigned work.
• Communicate directly with General Foremen, Superintendents, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Line Crews and other project personnel as required.
• Understand and follow detailed construction schedules.

A Lineman

• Perform rigorous physical labor as required. Including but not limited to digging, rigging, lifting, rescue operations, etc.
• Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
• Working knowledge of OSHA Shoring & Trenching Standards.
• Professional demeanor and interaction with fellow crew members, general public and customer representatives.
• Comprehensive knowledge of operations in terminating UG conductors & secondaries.
• Proficient in all aspects of working with energized enclosures.
• Proficient in operation of Digger Derrick, Backhoe, Trencher, Mini-Excavator, Knuckle Crane, etc.
• Proficient in all aspects of heavy lifting and rigging.
• Familiar with induced voltage.
• Proficient in grounding procedures.
• Capable of working in confined spaces.
• Understanding how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
• Capable of leading crew in preparation/installation of pad mount transformers & enclosures, in absence of Crew Foreman or with minimal supervision.
• Comprehensive knowledge of operations in terminating UG conductors & secondaries.
• Proficient at operation of Digger Derrick, Backhoe, Trencher, Mini-Excavator, Knuckle Crane, etc.
