Substance Use Counselor (LCDP) - Full-Time

About the role

Responsible for providing individual, group, and family counseling, conducting clinical assessments for new and ongoing patients, and demonstrating expertise in therapeutic interventions and evidence-based practices. Participates in treatment teams, provides service coordination, and advocates for patient care with the Utilization Review (UR) department.

Responsibilities

• Provide substance abuse counseling services in accordance with state laws, licensing boards, and professional ethical guidelines.
• Maintain a full patient caseload.
• Provide intervention, assessments, treatment planning, and individual/group counseling.
• Initiate and provide family counseling services.
• Facilitate therapeutic groups as assigned.
• Provide clinical services and assist with patients as directed by the clinical director.
• Participate in daily treatment team meetings and program staff meetings.
• Ensure all documentation meets contract, licensure, accreditation, and AAC’s documentation policy standards in a timely manner.
• Communicate efficiently with other departments to ensure the best care for patients.
• Provide clinical services to outpatient and inpatient adult populations.
• Understand and abide by State Department standards, facility accreditation, and AAC’s policies and procedures.
• Identify, evaluate, and address potentially harmful situations; report patient or safety concerns to the Clinical Manager and/or CEO.
• Adhere to the company code of ethics and maintain professional boundaries with patients at all times.
• Respect patient rights and address unique recovery needs.
• Communicate professionally with staff, patients, and families using excellent written and verbal skills.
• Participate in required clinical supervision, training, and staff meetings.
• Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure quality of care.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and company information in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 guidelines.
• Keep professional licensing, certification, and CEUs current without lapse, suspension, or investigation.
• Assist in monitoring and managing the patient community as a therapeutic milieu.
• Intervene in crisis situations to de-escalate and resolve issues.
• Communicate efficiently with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., BD, family, UR, employers, EAP).
• Perform all required documentation as per facility policies and procedures.
• Conduct ASAM Level of Care assessments at specified intervals following AAC’s documentation policy.
• Execute referent protocols following case assignment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences (social work, counseling, or psychology) strongly preferred or equivalent experience.
• LCDP (Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional) required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a behavioral healthcare field preferred.
• Experience with substance abuse, addictions, mental health, cognitive behavioral treatment, and motivational interviewing.
• Knowledge of electronic health record software and documentation.
• Knowledge of ASAM criteria.
• Ability to read, write, interpret written information, type documentation, present information to groups, and participate in meetings.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record (if driving a company vehicle or personal vehicle for company business).
• Prolonged sitting at a desk; ability to lift 15 pounds at a time.

Qualifications

• IC&RC certification related to substance use counseling.
• LCDP (Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional).
