About the role
The ACT team provides comprehensive, locally based treatment to adults with serious and persistent mental illnesses. The Substance Abuse Specialist supports individuals served by the ACT program while working closely with team members to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
Responsibilities
- Work 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, may include non-traditional hours
- Travel within the ACT service area (travel required; mileage/time reimbursed per policy)
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and represent the agency with professionalism at all times
- Participate in required meetings, training sessions, and public-relations activities
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support program and agency operations
- Provide consistent, high-quality, recovery-oriented, and intensive, individualized and comprehensive treatment in line with agency philosophy and best practices
- Promote a physically and emotionally safe, welcoming therapeutic environment
- Work cooperatively with the ACT team to meet the individual needs of clients
- Collaborate with clients on goals for discharge and aftercare planning to support ongoing growth and change
- Maintain up-to-date medical records as specified by state/program regulations
- Complete all documentation within the electronic health record (EHR)
- Participate in required in-house and appropriate out-of-house trainings
- Attend staff meetings and participate in formal group supervision and formal individual supervision as outlined by program regulations
Requirements
- Master's or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services)
- Full certification as an addictions counselor or a co-occurring disorders professional by a statewide certification body such as: Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC)
- Reliable transportation for travel within the community
- Ability to work flexible, non-traditional hours based on the client's needs
- Obtain the following clearances prior to hire: PA State Police Criminal History, PA Child Abuse History, FBI Criminal History, and Mandated Reporting Certificate
