Position Summary

Life Cycle Engineering is seeking a Submarine Sonar Technician to join our team in San Diego, CA. This role supports U.S. Navy Submarines under the direction of the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) and serves as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Direct, oversee repair activities, train, troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain the following:
    • Reelable Towed Array Handling System (RTAHS) aka Fat Line Towed Array (FLTA)
    • Deployable Array Working Group (DAWG) aka Thin Lined Towed Array (TLTA)
  • Provide technical support for procurement, installation, at-sea testing, preventive/corrective maintenance, and lifecycle management of systems.
    • Interpret technical manuals
    • Apply repair standards
    • Maintain accurate technical documentation

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Navy Submarine "A" School
  • Minimum of 6 years of related experience with associated systems
  • Fiber Optics Technician Certificate
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and maintaining communication systems
  • Strong technical comprehension with the ability to read and interpret manuals and standards
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related technical applications

Preferred Education, Skills and/or Experience

  • SSN-688 Los Angeles-class submarine background highly desired
  • Navy "C" School: OK-276/BQ Fat Line Handler - Intermediate Maintenance Course
  • OK-542A/BQ Thin Line Handler - Intermediate Maintenance Course
  • OA-9070B/BQQ Thin Line Handler System DAWG - Maintenance Course
  • OA-9070E/BQQ Thin Line Handler System DAWG-E - Maintenance Course
  • OA-9070A/B Operators Course
  • OK-276 Series Operators Course

Physical Demands and Expectations

  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and handling tools/equipment
  • Regular verbal and auditory communication
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to board ships and naval crafts, navigating passageways and steep ladders
  • Comfortable working in shipboard and industrial environments
