Sub Bus Aide

Pay Range: Minimum $16.08, Mid $19.30, Maximum $22.51 per hour

About the role

Assist the school bus or other school vehicle driver to safely transport children, including students who are physically and/or mentally challenged and require adult assistance.

Responsibilities

• Ride in assigned school transport to monitor the conduct of all students and maintain safety and discipline.
• Direct loading and unloading of students on school transportation to prevent congestion and unsafe conditions.
• Adhere to safety rules when loading and unloading children.
• Ensure that students are seated appropriately and use seat belts.
• Properly assist students with disabilities or other students in need of assistance to ensure they are safely helped on and off the vehicle.
• Ensure students' medical equipment and wheelchairs are properly handled and secured.
• Assist students in and out of car seats, when necessary.
• Ensure seat belts are properly fastened in vehicles equipped with seat belts.
• Maintain a good relationship with students, their parents/guardians, drivers, aides, and other district transportation personnel.
• Exercise responsible leadership when working with students and maintain discipline using appropriate techniques.
• Report student misconduct to the proper authority.
• Maintain confidentiality with all District information, including District and school population information.
• Maintain familiarity with and comply with students' positive behavior support plans and other accommodations or related services required during transport.
• Communicate with proper school personnel about issues relating to students who have positive behavior support plans or require other accommodations.
• Comply with district policies and guidelines regarding student transportation and discipline.
• Comply with all state, federal, and local laws and regulations applicable to this position.
• Work a split work day as required by the school arrival and dismissal times for the routes assigned.
• Assist with maintaining a clean and orderly vehicle.
• Assist in checking the entire inside of the vehicle at the completion of every student run.
• Attend in-service programs relating to transportation and other training as directed.
• Assist in the training and in-servicing of other school bus monitors as requested.
