Sub-Arc Seamer Welder - Nights
A Brief Summary Of This Position
The Seamer Operator is an Individual Contributor responsible for the set-up and operation of the flux core sub-arc seam welding machine to place a continuous seamed weld on one or two sides of the pole shafts. Standard Shift: 3rd shift (Nights) Monday - Friday 11PM - 7AM Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG9): $26.86 + $1.00 per hour shift differential.
Essential Functions
- Fuse (weld) metal structural components together by means of multiple forms of Submerged Arc Welding processes in the fabrication of steel electrical poles and other structures.
- Perform welding operations requiring most of the following: planning and layout, working from blueprints and drawings or other specifications; requires a knowledge of welding properties of a variety of metals; setting up work and determining operation sequences; welding objects involving critical safety and load requirements; working in a variety of positions.
- Perform repetitive types of assembling operations according to procedures established by others; and use hand tools and measuring devices in the performance of work.
- Move pole shafts using an overhead crane and gather parts and materials to complete the project.
Important Details About The Role
- Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment without difficulty.
- Read and decipher blueprints and flat sheets correctly and without assistance.
- Make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery.
- Work under conditions with accurate performance and completion of work within set time limits.
- Accountable and responsible for essential tools and equipment provided along with the maintenance of these tools and equipment.
- Actively participate in department safety, demonstrates excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.
- This position reports to the Production Supervisor.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate
- Successful completion of an internal welding test.
- Working knowledge of fixturing and weld set up parameters (amps, volts, etc.).
- Knowledge of welding properties of a variety of metals.
- The ability to read and interpret blueprints and/or shop drawings.
- The ability to set up work and determine operation sequence.
- The ability to calculate formulas using basic mathematics and standard U.S. and Metric Measurements.
- The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues.
- The ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people.
- The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
- The ability to meet production, safety, and quality standards in a high-paced working environment.
- The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with most frequent lift up to 20 pounds.
- Wear required personal protective equipment and follow facility safety regulations.
- Maintain a safe and productive working environment.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Graduation from an accredited trade school for welding.
- One (1) year previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- One (1) year previous experience welding in a professional environment.
- Demonstrate a commitment to Safety through excellent safety practices and behaviors by conforming to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.
