Stylist

About the role

The Stylist at Ulta Beauty is responsible for engaging with guests, consulting on their hair care needs, and recommending products and services. This role delivers quality professional services while supporting the Experience Manager (EM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) in performance, guest service, and operational compliance. A passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and a commitment to learning and communicating product knowledge are essential.

Responsibilities

• Perform hair services including hair design, haircuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Meet or exceed sales goals of $800 average weekly sales and productivity targets for hair services by delivering exceptional guest service.
• Contribute to store goals for retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink.
• Demonstrate business acumen by understanding key business drivers and identifying growth opportunities.
• Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest service experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to deliver an unrivaled guest experience.
• Stay informed about new and existing industry trends, products, and services, including their ingredients and benefits.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
• Develop guest relationships through consultations and tailored retail/service recommendations.
• Uphold high standards of customer service and salon image.
• Serve all guests, including walk-ins, in a timely and efficient manner.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a well-rounded guest experience.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for continuous professional development.
• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services, adhering to state board guidelines.
• Utilize booking and clientele systems to schedule return services and events.
• Communicate supply needs to the EM to ensure guest readiness.
• Maintain cleanliness and operational standards in the salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and assigned areas.
• Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code and loss prevention best practices.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

Requirements

• Cosmetology license.
• Previous relevant salon experience is preferred.

Skills

• Proficiency in latest salon techniques for haircutting, haircolor, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Aptitude to develop skills in all service categories.
• Proficiency with salon equipment and chemicals.
• Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell pro hair care and makeup products.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.

Schedule

• Work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Working Conditions

• Frequent mobility during shift.
• Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs. during shift.
• Frequent stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, twisting, and crouching.
• Ability to stand for long periods during shift.
• Continuous and/or frequent coordination and manipulation of objects.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00 per hour, with the opportunity for eligible associates to earn services pay pursuant to the Company’s Services Compensation Plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by applicable law and tips paid by service guests.
