About the Role

The Stylist engages guests, consults on hair‑care needs, recommends products and services, and delivers professional services that enhance the guest’s total look while supporting the Experience Manager and Assistant Services Manager.

Responsibilities

• Perform hair services including design, haircuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Meet or exceed an average weekly sales goal of $800 and productivity targets for hair services, contributing to overall store retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink goals.
• Demonstrate business acumen by identifying growth opportunities and driving product demonstrations to enhance the guest experience.
• Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives that deliver an unrivaled guest experience.
• Stay informed on new and existing industry trends, products, and services, and understand ingredient benefits to better serve guests.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
• Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations.
• Uphold high standards of customer service and salon image.
• Serve all guests, including walk‑ins, in a timely and efficient manner.
• Partner with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a total‑store, well‑rounded guest experience.
• Establish professional peer and brand‑partner relationships that foster collaborative guest service.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to salon and sales‑floor guests.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for continuous professional development.
• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection‑control procedures and adhere to state board guidelines.
• Follow established service protocols to ensure a consistent, exceptional guest experience.
• Utilize booking and clientele systems to schedule return services and events.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness.
• Maintain outstanding store operational standards, including cleanliness of the salon, sales floor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and any assigned areas.
• Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
• Protect company assets by following loss‑prevention best practices while delivering exceptional guest service.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

Qualifications

• Cosmetology license.
• Previous relevant salon experience is preferred.
• Proficiency with latest salon techniques for haircutting, hair color, lightening, styling, texture, treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (where applicable) or an aptitude to develop these skills.
• Proficiency with equipment and chemicals required for technical work.
• Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair‑care and makeup products.
• Developed communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and grow clientele.

Special Position Requirements

• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Frequent mobility during shift.
• Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lb. during shift.
• Frequent stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, twisting, and crouching.
• Ability to stand for long periods.
• Continuous and/or frequent coordination and manipulation of objects.

Pay

The pay range for this position is the higher of $12.41 – $19.00 per hour or services pay pursuant to Ulta Beauty’s Services Compensation Plan. Exact compensation is based on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by law and receive tips from service guests.
