Beyond Fitness is a boutique fitness studio focused on personal training and small-group fitness classes. Our mission is to encourage and empower adults to live stronger, healthier, and more active lives through expert personalized fitness, nutrition programs, and positive community connections. Our purpose is to help people live healthier lives and become the premier destination for personal training and healthy aging in Fairfield County, using innovative coaching technology that elevates the client experience while maintaining human connection. We primarily serve adults ages 40–70 who want to become fitter and healthier, remain active, and age well.

About the role

The Studio Manager leads and develops the Beyond Fitness team to achieve business performance targets. This person owns the day-to-day execution of the business plan, team accountability, operational consistency, client service experience, and marketing and lead-generation follow-through. This is not a passive administrative role. The Studio Manager must be comfortable setting expectations, reviewing performance, addressing problems, improving systems, supporting clients, and keeping the team focused on agreed-upon priorities. The right person will combine warmth and care with clear standards and accountability.

    • Support local outreach, referrals, partnerships, and community visibility.
  • Lead and develop the team
    • Make sure all key team seats are filled.
    • Lead, manage, and hold team members accountable for agreed commitments.
    • Develop team members through regular feedback, coaching, and follow-through.
    • Work toward at least 85% of team members consistently hitting performance targets.
    • Address performance concerns directly, respectfully, and promptly.
    • Create a healthy, functional team environment without avoiding difficult conversations.
  • Strengthen systems and operations
    • Ensure consistent compliance with Beyond Fitness core processes.
    • Document, simplify, and improve recurring operating procedures.
    • Train the team regularly on process execution.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, professional studio environment.
    • Make sure business functions work together rather than operating in isolation.
    • Protect the quality and consistency of the client experience.
  • Identify and resolve issues
    • Surface problems before they become larger.
    • Engage in necessary conflict calmly and professionally.
    • Identify the real cause of an issue instead of treating symptoms.
    • Resolve problems quickly and follow through until the issue is closed.
    • Communicate concerns clearly to the owner and team.
    • Take responsibility for results rather than blaming circumstances or other people.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operation of the studio.
  • Keep team priorities, responsibilities, and standards clear.
  • Monitor revenue, client count, lead activity, conversion, retention, and team performance.
  • Hold regular team meetings, check-ins, and accountability conversations.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and development of team members.
  • Address underperformance with clear expectations and follow-up.
  • Maintain a strong client experience from first contact through ongoing training.
  • Respond to client concerns with care, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Make sure prospects and clients receive timely follow-up.
  • Coordinate marketing and lead-generation activities.
  • Support referral and testimonial activity.
  • Maintain accurate and useful scorecards.
  • Build and improve simple operating systems.
  • Keep the studio environment clean, organized, welcoming, and professional.
  • Work closely with the owner to keep business priorities aligned.
  • Recommend improvements based on observed problems, client feedback, and performance data.
  • Step into frontline responsibilities when needed while still maintaining leadership focus.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading a team in a fitness, wellness, hospitality, service, or client-focused business.
  • Experience managing performance expectations and accountability.
  • Experience with business scorecards, key performance indicators, or operating targets.
  • Experience supporting marketing, lead generation, sales, or client conversion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence handling client concerns and team conflict.
  • Ability to organize priorities and follow through consistently.
  • Comfort using scheduling, client-management, reporting, and communication software. Strong technology skills.
  • Genuine interest in health, fitness, and helping adults live healthier lives.
  • Fitness-studio management experience is helpful, but leadership maturity, operational discipline, and values alignment are more important than having held the exact title before.

Schedule

This is a 25-30-hour-per-week in-person leadership role. The Studio Manager should expect a schedule that reflects the operating needs of a personal-training studio. This may include some early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekend coverage. The final weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Pay

The base salary range is $58,000–$65,000 per year. The role is also eligible for a performance bonus tied to revenue growth, achievement of agreed business and scorecard targets, team performance, and percentage of team members consistently meeting agreed expectations. The final compensation package will depend on experience, leadership capability, and demonstrated fit for the role.
