Job Summary
To use and maintain equipment and supplies necessary to administer radiographic exams to patients, under the indirect supervision of a radiologist or physician and in accordance with established federal and UMMC procedures.
Education & Experience
- Must have completed one semester of training at an accredited Radiologic Technology (RT) program and currently be a student in good standing at an accredited Radiologic Technology (RT) program.
Responsibilities
- Administers radiographic exams under a radiologist's or physician's request and supervision.
- Prepares room and positions patient to obtain optimum view.
- Positions equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance.
- Uses bean-restrictive devices and patient-shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patient and self.
- Maintains stock supplies; performs general office duties such as delivering and retrieving film, typing forms, scheduling patients, and maintaining records.
- Explains procedures to patients to alleviate anxiety and obtain cooperation.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold.
- Constant exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality.
- Constant bending, constant lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds.
- Occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature.
- Constant reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking.
