About the role

Reporting to the Associate Director of Wellness and Recreation, the Student Wellness Specialist leads student wellness programming and promotion to build a campus environment where students feel educated and empowered to make healthy and responsible choices that contribute to their overall personal and academic success. This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and is responsible for reporting crimes and other incidents to the Clery Act Compliance Officer for inclusion in the Annual Campus Security Report in accordance with the Federal Clery Act and GGC policy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate outreach programs that address the health and wellness needs of the student population through presentations, events, and educational initiatives on topics including stress and time management, sleep hygiene, sexual health, alcohol and other drug misuse, tobacco cessation, healthy relationships, food and nutrition, and other relevant wellness topics.
  • Serve as the College's Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Coordinator, developing and implementing strategies focused on awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and treatment related to alcohol and other substance misuse.
  • Collaborate with campus offices, college programs, community partners, and vendors to coordinate, implement, and evaluate risk-reduction programs, initiatives, and activities.
  • Track, maintain, and organize programming records and supporting documentation required for the College's Biennial Review.
  • Supervise, train, develop, and evaluate student assistants assigned to wellness programming.
  • Manage program inventory and ensure equipment and resources are maintained in safe and operable condition.
  • Develop and implement collaborative health and wellness programming opportunities for the campus community.
  • Develop, enforce, review, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and policy manuals.
  • Respond to facility, staff, and participant needs and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 4-year Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in a health promotion, student wellness, recreational, or public health setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in health education and health promotion within higher education settings.
  • Demonstrated record of successful staff development, supervision, and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a collegiate environment.
  • Active membership and professional involvement in relevant industry organizations, such as NIRSA.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential or ability to obtain CHES certification within one year of employment.

Pay

Proposed salary range: $42,100 – $50,500. Salary will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications, internal equity considerations, budget availability, and salary administration guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of computers and software applications used for word processing, data management, spreadsheets, presentations, reporting, and related administrative functions.
  • Knowledge of Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) standards and their application to higher education policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and priorities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written, verbal, and oral formats.
  • Knowledge of NASPA best practices related to alcohol, drug, and violence prevention within higher education settings.
  • Knowledge of NIRSA guidelines and best practices applicable to collegiate recreation and wellness programs.
