About the Role
As an Imaging Student Extern at Mission Hospital McDowell, you will build valuable hands-on experience by learning from experienced team members who are committed to your growth. You’ll be a valued, respected part of the team, contributing your insights and helping deliver care that keeps patients comfortable and confident throughout their imaging experience.
- Prepare patients for imaging by obtaining histories, verifying identities, and assisting with positioning while communicating clearly and compassionately.
- Safely transport patients between areas, supporting their comfort and emotional needs during procedures.
- Set up imaging rooms, manage turnover, and organize supplies to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient environment.
- Serve as a vital connection between patients, technologists, and the care team by communicating needs and concerns promptly.
- Take ownership of your growth by participating in learning opportunities and following safety and confidentiality standards.
- Support professional staff in the Ultrasound Department, including Technologists, RNs, and Physicians, to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
- Assist with non-clinical aspects of patient care—helping patients feel comfortable, welcomed, and informed during their procedure.
- Learn directly from experienced technologists, gaining valuable exposure to diagnostic imaging workflows.
- Perform required regulatory and documentation tasks under supervision.
- Work under the guidance of a registered technologist.
- Perform a variety of diagnostic procedures, utilizing sterile techniques and operating complex angiographic equipment.
- Assist physicians by scrubbing and circulating during procedures, as necessary, throughout the Mission Health system.
Requirements
- Must be entering second year of JRCERT accredited School of Radiography.
- BLS certified.
- Must be in second year of Radiography School.
