Responsibilities

  • Assist students with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene tasks (toileting, grooming, and dressing), mobility, and transferring as needed.
  • Provide physical and emotional support to students with physical disabilities, helping them move around the school, classrooms, and other facilities, and offering encouragement to students facing challenges.
  • Implement individualized care plans developed in collaboration with teachers, school nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure each student's unique needs are met.
  • Support in the classroom by collaborating with teachers and other school staff to facilitate students' participation in activities, and assist with instructional materials and adaptive equipment as required.
  • Maintain open communication with teachers, parents, and school staff regarding students' progress and any concerns, and attend meetings with the educational team to discuss and update care plans.
  • Promote independence by encouraging and empowering students to develop and maintain independence in daily activities whenever possible, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma minimum.
  • Willingness to go through and pass required clearances and training to ensure child safety, including mandated reporter training, physical, and TB test (typically can be accomplished within a week).
  • Capacity for sitting, standing, walking, bending, and stooping for long periods throughout the eight-hour day.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with special needs or disabilities is preferred.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work collaboratively with a team, and adapt to changing situations.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and privacy requirements related to student information.

Pay

Pay range starts at $14.85 per hour.
