Responsibilities
- Encourage a positive and successful learning experience for Indiana Tech’s transfer students to increase success, retention, and completion.
- Ensure proper credit articulation, degree mapping, and ongoing academic support to encourage student retention and completion.
- Provide academic support and guidance, offer approaches to managing school-life balance, and motivate and connect students to available resources.
- Broaden goals to provide: conduct individualized advising meetings with students, evaluate unofficial and official transcripts, guide academic policies, break down barriers, triage and connect students with supports, and generate ideas for continuous improvement.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Work closely with Admissions Representatives to ensure a smooth transition for students.
- Manage assigned caseload of students to develop personalized plans, transition to full-time advisors, and collaborate with faculty.
- Maintain academic plans, establish records, and communicate information to relevant departments.
- Participate in generating ideas for continuous improvement and adhere to FERPA regulations.
- Contribute to various onboarding activities and other initiatives to enhance student engagement, retention, and completion.
Qualifications
- Commitment to a culture of care: high emotional intelligence, empathy, and tact for engaging diplomatically with students.
- Familiarity and comfort with leveraging technological tools like Jenzabar, Canvas, and Slate.
- Knowledge of student development, retention, academic advising, and coaching.
- Data-informed and growth mindset with a willingness to take action.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Effective communication skills, including a strong interest in building cooperative relationships.
- Experience in student advising, academic skills development, admission/retention, or related fields.
- Prior experience in transfer credit evaluation or data processing.
- Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Computer skills, including digital literacy with student information systems, Microsoft Suite, and data analytic software.
