Student Success and Retention Specialist
Job Summary
The Student Success and Retention Specialist is a key member of the Student Affairs team responsible for coordinating student support and retention initiatives, with a particular focus on basic needs programming and student engagement. This role is highly functional and hands-on, combining direct student support, program coordination, and operational responsibilities. The position also requires specialized skills in communications, marketing, and web content management to effectively promote services and engage students. The Specialist serves as a central point of contact and provides front-line administrative and operational support as needed to ensure continuity of services.
About the Role
This is a fully in-person position and work schedule will vary based on program and operational needs (including some evening hours).
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement student support and retention initiatives, with a focus on basic needs programming and student engagement.
- Provide direct student support, including outreach, counseling, and referral services.
- Manage and coordinate program activities, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and objectives.
- Develop and maintain effective communication strategies to promote services and engage students.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to enhance student success and retention efforts.
- Administer and manage student records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Assist with event planning and execution, including marketing and promotion.
- Maintain and update web content and social media platforms to reflect current initiatives and services.
- Support the development and implementation of new programs and initiatives as needed.
Requirements
- Masters degree in Higher Education, Communications, or a related field.
- One (1) year of relevant experience in student services, higher education, or a related setting.
- Experience working with students from underserved populations, including those facing basic needs or other challenges.
Qualifications
- Strong organizational, administrative, and time management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with discretion.
