About the role

The purpose of this recruitment is to produce a pool of qualified applicants to call upon for temporary emergency Student Services Professional appointments which range from a duration of several days to a maximum of 120 days. A temporary/emergency appointment is generally utilized to cover an employee on leave of absence or to provide clerical support during a recruitment process subsequent to an employee's resignation. Temporary/emergency appointments will be made in the appropriate job classification, depending upon the needs of the hiring department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a wide variety of professional services and activities ranging from preadmission to the university through post-graduation.
  • Assist students in making successful progress toward their degree objectives.
  • Supervise and manage programs, events, and projects.
  • Facilitate student involvement in campus life.
  • Advocate the needs of individual students and groups of students to university administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Support and assist students facing a variety of personal as well as institutional problems, questions, and challenges.
  • Communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
  • Follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
  • One year of directly related experience for Student Services Professional I (A).
  • Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required for Student Services Professional II.
  • Three years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required for Student Services Professional III.
  • Four years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required for Student Services Professional IV.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information; and the techniques and methods of interviewing.
  • General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
  • Advising students individually and in groups on routine matters where required.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
  • General knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures, and practices of the program area to which assigned.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, and practices of the program area to which assigned or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.
  • General knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public administration, such as organizational, personnel and fiscal.
  • Ability to carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, and practices of the program area to which assigned or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.
  • General knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods.
  • Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
  • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.

Benefits

Compensation varies based on qualifications and experience. Final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Time Base: Successful candidates may be appointed for a few days and up to six (6) months depending on the assignment.

Pay

  • Student Services Professional I (A) - $3,952 - $4,834/month.
  • Student Services Professional I (B) - $4,269 - $6,040/month.
  • Student Services Professional II - $4,841 - $6,884/month.
  • Student Services Professional III - $5,276 - $7,517/month.
  • Student Services Professional IV - $6,019 - $8,585/month.

Schedule

Time Base: Successful candidates may be appointed for a few days and up to six (6) months depending on the assignment.
