Student Respiratory Therapy Technician-Children's of Mississippi

Evaluation

Evaluates patients through interviews, limited physical exams, and conducting diagnostic tests; consults with physicians to address patient care respiratory therapy needs.

Responsibilities

• Operates and monitors respiratory equipment such as medical gas delivery apparatus, incentive breathing/hyperinflating devices, environmental control systems and aerosol devices
• Administers medical gases, humidification, aerosols and no-exotic respiratory medications
• Maintains clearance of patient's natural and artificial airways
• Provides emergency cardiopulmonary assistance
• Maintains applicable records and documentation
• Ensures compliance with workplace safety, environmental and/or infection control

Requirements

Must be actively enrolled and progressing full time in an accredited respiratory care practitioner program and have completed three semesters of clinical coursework. Must have a minim GPA of 2.5.

Skills

• Set-up and monitoring of low-flow oxygen (e.g., less than or equal to 6 LPM)
• Non-exotic aerosol therapy (bronchodilators, antichollnagics, etc.)
• Hyperinflation and airway clearance therapy
• Electrocardiograms
• Equipment cleaning, stocking, transporting, etc.
