Utah Valley University is seeking a student to be a financial coach in the Money Success Center.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Financial Coach code of conduct, including ethics, safety measures, and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Attend all four monthly trainings during the semester.
  • Complete a minimum of 5 hours each week in the MSC.
  • Participate and show up on time to all assigned marketing tables, presentations, and client appointments.
  • Mentor a new incoming coach.
  • Accept personal responsibility for conduct, exhibiting behavior representative of a trained, skilled Financial Coach that instills confidence in clients.
  • Dress appropriately during all MSC-related activities (see Dress Code).
  • Increase professional counseling competency through class participation (FIN 4200) and staying informed about developments in financial counseling and planning.
  • Understand the core purpose of helping clients help themselves, and refer clients to other resources when appropriate.
  • Report immediately to the Director of the Money Success Center if put on academic probation.
  • Respond within 24 hours to all appointment assignments and client correspondence.
  • Show respect to clients by focusing attention during appointments (no cell phone use, emails, or eating).
  • Arrive early for appointments to ensure required documentation is completed or available.
  • Be cautious of food choices before appointments, marketing tables, or presentations.
  • Follow up with clients as promised (e.g., sending a budget spreadsheet after an appointment).
  • Stand in front of the table when working at a marketing table; avoid talking or texting on your cell phone.

Dress Code

While comfort is important, professionalism must be maintained during all MSC-related activities. Coaches are encouraged to wear MSC-branded clothing. The following guidelines apply:

  • No gym shorts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, or t-shirts (except MSC t-shirts) for counseling appointments, marketing tables, or presentations.
  • Jeans may be worn if they are in good condition.

Requirements

  • Must be a current UVU student enrolled in the Personal Financial Planning program.

  • Ability to mentor new coaches and work collaboratively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to stay updated on financial counseling and planning industry developments.
  • Respect for client confidentiality and focus during appointments.
  • Reliability and punctuality for all assigned duties.
