About the role
The Outpatient Service Centers include phlebotomy draw stations at various locations in the Greater Columbus Area, such as Ross Heart Hospital, Martha Morehouse Pavilion, Outpatient Care Dublin, Outpatient Care New Albany, Outpatient Care Lewis Center, Outpatient Care Gahanna, Outpatient Care Upper Arlington, Outpatient Care East, and Hilliard. Hours vary per site to accommodate each location’s operational and patient service needs.
The Student Assistant performs specimen collection by venipuncture and capillary puncture, specimen labeling, and specimen processing. Additional duties include verifying accuracy and quality of specimens, dispatching specimens to appropriate testing locations, training others in these techniques, entering test requisitions, greeting and directing patients, and gathering complete patient information for registration and accessioning of all procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform specimen collection via venipuncture and capillary puncture.
- Label and process specimens accurately.
- Verify the quality and accuracy of collected specimens.
- Dispatch specimens to appropriate testing locations.
- Train others in specimen collection and processing techniques.
- Enter test requisitions and gather complete patient information.
- Greet and direct patients through laboratory procedures.
- Adhere to Medical Center policies and procedures.
- Meet yearly departmental goals aligned with the strategic plan.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- Phlebotomy certification (preferred, but not required).
- Maintain certification status, if applicable.
- Meet mandatory education and health surveillance requirements.
- Demonstrate competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required for essential job functions.
Final candidates are subject to a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post-offer process.
