Student Learning Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

About the role

This is not a teaching position. This is motivation work. The most meaningful support you can offer a student who reaches 99% of their target is to insist it isn't finished. If that expectation feels uncomfortable, this role is not for you. If it energizes you because maintaining high standards is how you demonstrate belief in a student's potential, continue reading.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts addressing public speaking, focus, feedback exchange, and other enduring competencies, modifying the existing framework and creating new sessions when you identify a need
  • Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation sessions that drive every student toward their weekly application targets, leveraging Coachbot data, Alpha's reward structures (campus currency, leaderboards), and your personal connection with each student to overcome resistance
  • Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's competency-based evaluation) for each life skill, and continuing to coach students who do not achieve passing scores until mastery is reached
  • Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct conversation and responsibility
  • Analyzing weekly cohort performance metrics in Coachbot, pinpointing students falling behind, and modifying your coaching tactics for the upcoming week based on data insights

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Presenting lessons at a whiteboard; academic content is delivered through the applications, not by you
  • Creating an entire curriculum from scratch; you begin with an established playbook and customize it with your own enthusiasm and narrative skills
  • Passively monitoring children at computers; motivation in this environment is active, individualized, and persistent
  • Working through bureaucratic channels to secure resources for struggling students; if a student requires additional coaching time, you decide and implement immediately
  • Evaluating homework, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the other tasks do not exist in this model

Basic Requirements

  • Available to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Beverly Hills, CA; Piedmont, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR (relocation assistance provided)
  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (classroom instruction, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program management)
  • A concrete example you can articulate of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging goal: the objective, your actions, and the result
  • Comfort allowing AI to manage instructional delivery while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills coaching

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Background in youth sports coaching, debate, camp leadership, theater, or after-school programs where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward defined objectives
  • Demonstrated personal record of high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional), indicating that holding others to rigorous standards is consistent behavior, not an adopted stance
  • Narrative ability and stage presence sufficient to engage a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice
  • Proven ability to transform disengaged or resistant students into engaged contributors
