$120,000 annual W2 salary paid weekly, with health, dental, and vision coverage starting day oneOn-site role at an Alpha K-8 school in Beverly Hills, CA; Piedmont, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR (relocation assistance available) This role is not about teaching. It is about motivation. When a student reaches 99% of their target, the most supportive action you can take is to refuse to accept it as complete. If that expectation feels uncomfortable, this role is not for you. If it energizes you—because maintaining high standards demonstrates your belief in what a student can accomplish—continue reading. At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-driven applications. There are no lectures or textbooks. Approximately 60% of your time is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering topics such as public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback. Around 30% involves working with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress via Coachbot analytics, and guiding each toward their weekly application goals. The remaining 10% consists of data analysis that informs your coaching strategy for the week ahead. Workshops provide a foundation, not a script; top performers in this role modify them and create new content when needed. Success in a semester is defined by at least 90% of students in your cohort achieving weekly app goals, demonstrating measurable life-skill improvement on Test2Pass, and rating their experience with you at 4 out of 5 or higher. Falling short on any of these three metrics means the job has not been done. Once you demonstrate your ability to maintain these standards, you become eligible for advancement to Lead Guide—where you mentor newer Guides while continuing to lead a cohort—and eventually to Campus Lead, where you oversee an entire school and manage parent engagement. If traditional teaching appeals to you, if you prefer ready-made curricula, or if you view warmth and rigor as incompatible, this position will not be a fit. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring students who wanted to quit, or performing in front of middle schoolers, the final stage before receiving an offer is a full day on campus working with actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you, submit your application now. What You Will Be Doing Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts addressing public speaking, focus, feedback exchange, and other transferable skills; modifying the existing framework and creating new sessions when you identify unmet needsConducting daily individual and small-group coaching sessions that drive every student toward their weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's motivational tools (school currency, leaderboards), and your personal connection with each student to overcome reluctanceDelivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's competency-based evaluation) for each life skill and continuing to coach students who do not achieve mastery until they succeedTailoring your approach across a broad developmental spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring dynamic, movement-based engagement to 8th graders who respond to candid conversations and responsibilityAnalyzing weekly cohort metrics in Coachbot, pinpointing students falling behind, and refining your coaching methods for the upcoming week based on data insights What You Won’t Be Doing Standing at a whiteboard delivering lessons; academic content is embedded in the applications, not delivered by youCreating an entire curriculum without guidance; you begin with an established playbook and personalize it with your style and narrative skillsPassively monitoring students on devices; motivation in this role is proactive, individualized, and persistentWorking through administrative channels to secure support for students in need; when a student requires additional coaching, you decide and implement immediatelyMarking assignments, facilitating standardized test preparation, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage parent communication, and the other tasks do not exist in this model Student Learning Coach Key Responsibilities Drive every student in your K-8 cohort to meet their weekly learning targets, achieve mastery in each life skill, and conclude the year expressing genuine appreciation for your coaching.
