About the role

The Youth Environmental Leadership Assistant supports the implementation of the Stockton Youth Environmental Stewardship (SYES) program. This role provides hands-on experience in environmental education, community engagement, and municipal program operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist ESO staff with planning and delivering SYES curriculum activities
  • Lead small groups of youth during cleanup events, workshops, and field activities
  • Prepare program materials, tool kits, safety gear, and event supplies
  • Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and civic pride
  • Participate in leadership training and staff development sessions

Requirements

  • Be 16-21 years of age
  • Live in Stockton, California
  • Be actively enrolled as a student
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Be available to work 12 hours/week for 52 weeks
  • Be a former YESS program participant (preferred)

Qualifications

  • Former participant of the YESS program (preferred)
  • Interest in environmental stewardship, public service, or community engagement
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to the full program schedule
