About the role
The Youth Environmental Leadership Assistant supports the implementation of the Stockton Youth Environmental Stewardship (SYES) program. This role provides hands-on experience in environmental education, community engagement, and municipal program operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist ESO staff with planning and delivering SYES curriculum activities
- Lead small groups of youth during cleanup events, workshops, and field activities
- Prepare program materials, tool kits, safety gear, and event supplies
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and civic pride
- Participate in leadership training and staff development sessions
Requirements
- Be 16-21 years of age
- Live in Stockton, California
- Be actively enrolled as a student
- Have reliable transportation
- Be available to work 12 hours/week for 52 weeks
- Be a former YESS program participant (preferred)
Qualifications
- Former participant of the YESS program (preferred)
- Interest in environmental stewardship, public service, or community engagement
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to the full program schedule
