Student Hourly-Student Technical Crew

The Lied Center of Kansas serves the state’s flagship university, students, and the greater community by functioning as a catalyst for the arts, creativity, engagement, and community building. The ideal candidate will follow directions diligently and work well with others.

Responsibilities

• 35% – Assist with set-up and tear-down of Lied Center events, including hanging and focusing lights, moving curtains, loading and unloading counterweight arbors, setting up and striking acoustical shells and large music ensembles, laying dance floors, and loading and unloading equipment.
• 25% – Operate technical systems during events, including running lighting consoles, setting up and running audio systems, operating cameras, and running video projections.
• 15% – Provide stage and production support, working alongside professional staff to ensure successful execution of professional music, dance, theatrical tours, university ensemble performances, organizational events, and community events.
• 10% – Maintain and repair equipment, including changing lamps, repairing cables, maintaining technical systems, and supporting the upkeep of facility equipment.
• 10% – Work as part of a 50+ member technical crew team, meeting deadlines, participating in training, completing general production tasks as assigned, and supporting the technical aspects of the facility under the supervision of full-time technical staff.
• 5% – Assist with costume and production area support, including laundering and pressing costumes and helping maintain clean and organized production spaces.

Requirements

• Must be able to adhere to an online-based scheduling system.
• Must be able to communicate in a clear, timely, and consistent manner using email correspondence.
• Must have a flexible schedule.
• Must have two two-hour blocks of time available during weekdays, not including noon - 1pm.
• During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods, the student hourly must:
  • Have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester, or
  • Be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours, or
  • Be enrolled in summer session, or
  • Be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
• Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students (exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments do not apply to Student Hourly appointments).
• Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by unit leadership and HR.
• This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.

Qualifications

Required

• Must meet the enrollment requirements outlined above.

Preferred

• Experience in concert, theatre, or video production.
• Working knowledge of stagecraft with relevant background (e.g., fly crew, sound, electrician, carpenter, prop handler, costumes, camera operator, etc.).

Pay

$10.50 per hour
