About the role
The Student Employment Coordinator oversees the student employment process at UC Santa Cruz, focusing on enhancing career readiness and professional development for students.
Responsibilities
- Determines appropriate UC Santa Cruz payroll and work authorization documents for all new student employees.
- Leads new student employees through the hiring and authorization process.
- Coordinates all completed payroll forms by reviewing for completeness and accuracy.
- Troubleshoots errors in the new student hiring process and determines appropriate solutions, consulting with key stakeholders.
- Communicates with students, employers, and timekeepers, answering general questions related to student employment procedures.
- Routinely reviews new student employee forms and documentation completed by the team of student assistants and communicates errors and changes throughout the employment process.
- Manages current and future employment databases and systems, including Tracker, UCPath, and Handshake.
- Attends UC-wide and required meetings to ensure accurate and timely information about requirements, compliance, and management of databases.
- Reviews and cleans data and entries in platforms like Tracker and Handshake to ensure accurate information and to meet compliance requirements, leveraging student assistants to aid in this process.
- Recruits and hires a team of student assistants who review new student employee forms and Handshake job postings.
- Provides training on student employment procedures, evaluating job postings, and their role in reviewing student employment information.
- Leads bi-weekly team meetings for student assistants, providing ongoing professional development and training.
- Provides supervision and end of quarter evaluations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent experience and/or training.
- Demonstrated clerical and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to connect with all levels of staff, students, and external constituents in a respectful, supportive, yet authoritative manner.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently in a goal-oriented, team-based environment.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize a heavy volume of workload with pressure of deadlines and constant interruptions.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Able to perform accurate data entry and proofread work carefully.
- Able and willing to learn and use new computer programs and applications as required by the unit or campus.
Qualifications
