Student Employment Assistant
About the role
The Student Employment Assistant supports the student employment onboarding process for UC Santa Cruz, recognizing the transformative power of student employment on students' career readiness and professional development. Reporting to the Director of Experiential Learning & Student Employment, the position involves initiating the misconduct review process, supporting the employment misconduct disclosure process, and assisting with onboarding during peak periods.
Responsibilities
- Initiates the allegations of misconduct review process for all concurrent/rehire student employees.
- Conducts the employment misconduct disclosure process for all new and rehire student employees.
- Supports the onboarding process during peak periods, including completing payroll packets, I-9 activations and approvals, and entries into the campus payroll and personnel system, UCPath.
- Communicates with students, employers, and timekeepers, answering general questions related to student employment procedures.
- Participates in ongoing professional development to enhance and maintain expertise in student employment, career readiness, and career development practices.
- Represents UC Santa Cruz, as needed, in meetings.
- Completes special projects, committee assignments, and other duties as assigned by the Director or Executive Director.
Qualifications
- High school diploma and/or equivalent training and/or experience.
- Clerical and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to use good judgment and discretion when dealing with confidential information.
- Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to connect with all levels of staff, students, and external constituents in a respectful, supportive, yet authoritative manner.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently in a goal-oriented, team-based environment.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize a heavy volume of workload with pressure of deadlines and constant interruptions.
- Good written communication skills.
- Able to perform accurate data entry and proofread work carefully.
- Able and willing to learn and use new computer programs and applications as required by the unit or campus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of employment procedures and State and Federal hiring guidelines.
- Basic knowledge of UC programs, career services, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.

Pay
Budgeted Salary: $29.81 - $33.26 / Hourly.
Schedule
Part-time, Fixed Percentage of Time: 50%, 20 Hours per Week. Days of the Week: Mon-Fri. Shift Includes: Day.

Special Conditions of Employment
- Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.

- Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
- Selected candidate will be required to work primarily on campus, with periods of remote work possible based on operational needs.
- If a hybrid work schedule is confirmed, the selected candidate must be able to work successfully from a home/remote office and be able to fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
- Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
