About the role

The Grounds Maintenance Student Employee supports the upkeep, appearance, and safety of campus grounds through a variety of landscaping and maintenance tasks. Working under the direction of the Grounds Superintendent or designee, the student will perform duties such as mowing, trimming, mulching, weeding, planting flowers and shrubs, and operating landscape equipment. Students will receive hands-on training in groundskeeping practices and basic equipment maintenance, providing valuable experience in landscape maintenance and equipment operation.

Responsibilities

• Mowing, trimming, and edging lawns
• Mulching, weeding, and planting flowers and shrubs
• Operating landscape equipment (e.g., push mowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, hand blowers)
• Performing basic equipment maintenance
• Following instructions and adhering to safety procedures
• Working independently and maintaining reliable attendance and punctuality
• Performing physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds

Requirements

• Willingness to learn the operation of grounds maintenance equipment and basic landscaping techniques
• Reliable attendance and punctuality

• Ability to follow instructions and work independently

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (preferred)
• Basic knowledge of lawn care and landscaping, including the ability to identify common weeds (preferred)
• Experience operating basic lawn and landscape equipment, such as push mowers, string trimmers, hand blowers, or hedge trimmers (preferred)

Pay

$13.30 per hour

Schedule

Part-time, temporary. Work hours vary based on departmental needs and student availability.
