About the role
The Student Educator Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) position at Houston Methodist Hospital is dedicated to supporting and mentoring CPE students. This role involves providing spiritual care to patients, family members, and employees, and facilitating CPE courses.
Responsibilities
- Mentor CPE students, offering spiritual care support and participating in various clinical settings.
- Provide pastoral care to patients, family members, and employees, respecting their social, religious, and cultural contexts.
- Facilitate CPE courses and units under the guidance of a CPE Certified Educator or Director/Manager.
- Document patient visits and spiritual care provided accurately and thoroughly in the patient's record.
- Assess and consult with physicians, clinical management, and hospital leadership to ensure quality and safety of services.
- Engage in reflective practices and contribute to the growth and development of other learners or professionals.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in theological studies from an accredited institution or equivalency approved by an endorsing body.
- Four units of CPE completed from an ACPE accredited center.
- Experience as a professional chaplain preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and handle challenging situations.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to operate various systems.
- Strong interpersonal and team player skills.
- Knowledge of ACPE Standards and Manuals, ACPE Code of Professional Ethics, and APC Common Code of Ethics for Chaplains, Pastoral Counselors, Pastoral Educators, and Students.

- Articulates a theology/philosophy of spiritual care that integrates with practice.
- Provides crisis intervention for patients, family, visitors, employees, and physicians.
- Recommends initiatives to improve department and organization targets for patient satisfaction measures.
Qualifications
