About the role

The Student Disability Resources Center (SDRC) provides services for students with various permanent and temporary disabilities. These disabilities may include: learning disabilities; attention deficit disorder; autism, visual, mobility, or hearing impairments; psychological disabilities; chronic health disorders (e.g., lupus, Crohn's disease, multiple sclerosis, diabetes); fractures, strains, or stress injuries. The Disability Specialist interprets medical and other support documentation to recommend and facilitate reasonable accommodations for students to ensure their access to the educational opportunities at the University of California, Riverside. The Specialist works with individual students to determine eligibility for disability-related accommodations and services, providing appropriate follow-up and disability-related counseling. They serve as the campus resource specialist in the development of accommodations and academic adjustments for this population, providing on-going consultation and problem-solving assistance to faculty and staff. Position is expected to work evenings and weekends during high demand periods (e.g., final exams, programs, events, outreach, etc).

Responsibilities

  • Interpret medical and other support documentation to recommend and facilitate reasonable accommodations for students.
  • Work with individual students to determine eligibility for disability-related accommodations and services.
  • Provide appropriate follow-up and disability-related counseling.
  • Serve as the campus resource specialist in the development of accommodations and academic adjustments for students with disabilities.
  • Provide on-going consultation and problem-solving assistance to faculty and staff.
  • Work evenings and weekends during high demand periods (e.g., final exams, programs, events, outreach, etc).

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology or related field, or a Master's degree in counseling psychology, rehabilitation counseling, or related field, and two years of professional experience.
  • Four to seven years of related experience.
  • Experience in interpreting psycho-educational reports and neuropsychiatric reports, and ability to apply this information for determination of appropriate disability accommodations.
  • Experience conducting neuropsychological assessments or learning disability assessments.
  • Experience working at a higher education research institution.
  • Experience in disability management and/or crisis management with adults with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to train others in basic self advocacy, self helping, and coping skills.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability in working with college age adults who have been diagnosed as having learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, neurological disabilities, psychological/psychiatric disabilities, and other co-occuring or complex conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and present programs tailored to a particular audience.
  • Ability to develop innovative approaches for preventative and developmental interventions.
