Student Cook

About the role

As a student cook, you will be assisting the Cowles House Executive Chef in food preparation and presentation.

Responsibilities

• Chopping fruits and vegetables
• Following written recipes and lists
• Stocking and restocking a buffet
• Plating meals
• Running the dishwasher
• Taking directions from the chef

Requirements

• Be enrolled as a student at Michigan State University (during academic year)
• Able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision
• Positive and respectful while working with others
• Able to work variable hours Monday through Friday, occasional Saturday and Sunday events
• Able to work all home football games
• Positive interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Dependable, motivated, and eager to learn
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Comfortable working in a kitchen environment
• Previous cooking experience not required

Physical Demands

Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Ability to work safely in a fast-paced kitchen environment

Work Hours

• Flexible shifts that accommodate class schedules
• Variable hours Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 10:00 pm
• Available to work all home football games preferred
• Occasional weekend shifts based on event needs
