Student Cook

Responsibilities

• Assist the Cowles House Executive Chef in food preparation and presentation.
• During prep shifts: chop fruits and vegetables, follow written recipes and lists, and work both supervised and unsupervised.
• During event shifts: stock and restock a buffet, plate meals, run the dishwasher, and follow chef’s directions.

Required Qualifications

• Enrolled as a student at Michigan State University (during academic year).
• Able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
• Positive and respectful while working with others.
• Able to work variable hours Monday through Friday, occasional Saturday and Sunday events.
• Able to work all home football games.
• Dependable, motivated, and eager to learn.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable working in a kitchen environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous cooking experience is not required.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to work safely in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Work Hours

• Flexible shifts that accommodate class schedules.
• Variable hours Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
• Available to work all home football games preferred.
• Occasional weekend shifts based on event needs.
