Student Administrative Aide 1 - Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane
About the Role
The Visitor Services Associate at the Newcomb Art Museum (NAM) is the first point of contact for museum visitors. This employee greets visitors and provides them with information about the exhibitions, programming, and NAM’s permanent collection; ensures exhibition integrity, and captures visitor data. When possible, provides information and interpretation of displayed art through casual or formal tours, runs sales transactions in the museum gift area, and helps staff with public programming.
The position is designed to provide Tulane students with exposure to and experience in museum operations, especially for those interested in pursuing a career in the visual arts. Throughout the employment period, students can expect to build public speaking and social interaction skills, empathy, critical thinking, and knowledge of visual art and how it can be applied to multiple disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Greet visitors and provide information about exhibitions, programming, and the museum’s permanent collection
- Ensure exhibition integrity and capture visitor data
- Provide interpretation of displayed art through casual or formal tours
- Process sales transactions in the museum gift area
- Assist staff with public programming
Qualifications
This position is ONLY available to students currently enrolled at Tulane University who have been awarded Federal Work-Study as part of their financial aid package for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Pay
Hourly pay rate: $11.50
