Student Achievement Specialist - GEAR UP | Heritage High School (Vancouver, WA)
About the role
The Washington State University Tri-Cities GEAR UP program is seeking a Student Achievement Specialist (SAS) at Heritage High School in Vancouver, WA. The SAS will provide student mentoring, monitor and collect student data, and increase engagement in education, academic behaviors, family connections, and post-secondary access support.
Responsibilities
- Provide family outreach and education on college readiness
- Offer student and academic support services, including student advising
- Absess participant's needs and create individual action plans
- Work closely with school personnel and community partners
- Participate in after school, evening, and weekend activities
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience
- Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience
- Two years of the professional experience must be in student services, specifically providing instruction or direct outreach services to students and/or working with parents in individual or group settings, or related education/experience
- Knowledge of community, educational, and social service resources in the district’s community
- Proficiency in the use of computers and MS Office software programs (Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Willingness and ability to travel overnight and work a flexible schedule, including frequent nights and weekends
- Ability to manage, track, and report program data
- Experience in student academic support programs
- Bilingual/Biliterate in English and Spanish (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years experience working with middle/high school, higher education, and/or GEAR UP programs
- Familiarity with organization and operation of school/district administration and university/community college systems
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people

Pay
$4,152.19 per month
Schedule
Full time (100% FTE), temporary position. Overtime eligible. On-site/in-person position located in Vancouver, WA. Temporary End Date: July 31, 2027. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
Additional Information
This is an on-site/in-person position located in Vancouver, WA. The position is sponsored by the department and requires a background check due to access to children or vulnerable adults, law enforcement, security clearance, interactions with WSU students in a counseling or advising capacity, access to personal identifying and/or financial information, unsupervised access to university buildings/property, or other business-related needs. A background check will be completed after an initial determination of qualification for employment has been made.
