General Responsibilities
- Understands and properly interprets the pertinent contract documents, information, and references for the structural work of a construction project
- Exercises sound engineering judgement and determinations regarding the administration of a construction contract and field operations for the structural aspects of a project
- Administers the documentation of a construction contract’s structural work, verifies that contract documentation related to structures including but not limited to contract correspondence, change orders, submittals, and requests for information is generated, distributed, and filed in proper order
- Maintains the safety program for field work and operations related to the structural aspects of construction
- Performs assignments as determined and delegated by the CM Project Manager or Resident Engineer
Specific Responsibilities
- Attends bi-weekly safety meetings and leads portions of the meeting related to safety issues and topics pertinent to structural construction
- Resolves or facilitates the resolution of discrepancies, problems with the contract documents and pertinent field operations related to structures
- Takes appropriate field measurements and performs calculations for the monthly payment of contract quantities for structural work in an accurate manner
- Collaborates and/or performs quality testing for structural work on the construction project
- Writes clear, concise, and thorough daily entries for reports, memos, notes, etc.
- Creates and maintains open and productive communications between the CM Project Manager/Resident Engineer, subordinates, subconsultants, Mark Thomas management staff, contractors, and/or clients
- Promotes the Mark Thomas core values, vision, and goals internally and externally
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, Skills & Certifications
- Meets/exceeds competencies equivalent to the Assistant Resident Engineer level
- Holds a BS degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering
- 5+ years progressively responsible experience in construction inspection, or, 7-10+ years of general construction experience specifically related to structural engineering design and construction
- California Professional Engineer (PE) license required; or PE in another state with the ability to obtain CA Licensure within one year
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
- Willingness to travel
- Proficient in MS PowerPoint and MS Project
- Competent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated basic understanding of both internal and external project financials and metrics
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities
