About the role
Everett Ship Repair is the premier ship repair facility in the Pacific Northwest, offering comprehensive repair, maintenance, and conversion services for various types of commercial vessels, with a strong focus on commercial workboats and passenger vessels. Located near the US Navy, we are actively pursuing opportunities to serve this market, leveraging our impressive dry-docking capacity and skilled workforce.
Responsibilities
- Weld structural portions of marine vessels, including hulls, superstructures, masts, pilot houses, and engine rooms.
- Perform wire feed and stick welding operations for fabrication, assembly, subassembly, and final erection of all structural components.
- Set up and operate MIG welders for watertight and skip weld patterns.
- Layout skip weld patterns and perform Air Arc operations to back gouge welds and remove bad welds.
- Work as a member of a team, demonstrating effective communication, adaptability, problem-solving, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Complete hundreds of inches of weld during an eight-hour shift, ensuring high-quality joints on every weld.
- Enter confined spaces using a respirator and work in small workspaces at odd angles.
- Communicate ideas clearly both verbally and in writing, and participate in ongoing learning and development opportunities.
Qualifications
- 3+ years experience as a Welder
- Ability to read, interpret specifications, and work from drawings and blueprints
- Basic math skills
- Experience working around heavy machinery
- Confined space entry and work in small workspaces at odd angles
- High school education or equivalent, or vocational education
- Knowledge of shipyard safety practices and vessel terminology
- Formal external or internal training in physics, chemistry, weld equipment care and operating, blueprint reading, metallurgy, SMAW/TIG welding, and advanced welding processes
- USCG or ABS welding certification
- Experience with multiple alloys (Steel, Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Copper Nickel)
- OSHA 10-Certification
- Ultrasound training or certification (Level 1 or higher)
- CWI or CWS certification
- Interest in and aptitude for taking on future crew leadership roles
