Primary Responsibilities
- Perform all work safely in compliance with Holtec safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Prepare, position, align, and fit materials for welding based on engineering drawings, work orders, and Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS)
- Execute FCAW welding in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, as well as GTAW welding, ensuring high-quality welds
- Perform welding operations that meet visual, dimensional, and X-ray inspection standards
- Use measuring tools and layout techniques to verify part dimensions and tolerances
- Lay out, tack weld, heat-bend, clamp, grind, and bolt components to ensure proper alignment prior to final welding
- Maintain monitoring of fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent distortion or overheating
- Visually inspect welds for defects and ensure compliance with AWS standards and Holtec quality requirements
- Set up and operate manual, semi-automatic, and automatic welding equipment, including FCAW, GTAW, SAW, and plasma arc systems
- Safely handle materials and components using overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with housekeeping and safety standards
Requirements
- A High School diploma or GED is required
- 2–4 years of welding experience in a heavy plate manufacturing or industrial environment are required
- Demonstrated proficiency with Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) on carbon steel and stainless steel are required
- Ability to pass Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) weld tests in 2G (horizontal groove) and 3G (vertical groove) positions are required
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical documentation are required
- Working knowledge of AWS (American Welding Society) standards and industry best practices are required
- Previous certification to ASME Section IX (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and/or AWS D1.1 (Structural Steel) / AWS D1.6 (Stainless Steel) are preferred
- Experience in nuclear or high-spec industrial fabrication environments are preferred
- Multi-process welding experience (e.g., SMAW – Shielded Metal Arc Welding, GMAW – Gas Metal Arc Welding, SAW – Submerged Arc Welding) are a plus
- Familiarity with digital weld documentation and inspection tools are preferred
- Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends, or travel as production needs require are required
- Must pass pre-employment weld tests administered in accordance with Holtec WPS requirements are required
