STRUCTURAL STEELPAINTER SUPERVISOR

About the role

Under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Manager I, II, Structural Steel Painter Superintendent, or Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent, the Structural Steel Painter Supervisor works with and supervises Lead Structural Steel Painters, Structural Steel Painters, and Structural Steel Painter Apprentices engaged in rigging for painting, cleaning, painting structural cables, bridges, and related structures and facilities.

The incumbent may supervise inspection duties on contracted-out structural steel painting assignments or be responsible for headquarters staff assignments comparable in level of responsibility, such as statewide review of structural steel paint inspection reports, consulting on paint standards, drafting painting contracts and special provisions, making estimates, and other related work.

Responsibilities include the proper paint maintenance of the Vincent Thomas Bridge in District 7 and providing assistance to the District 7 Mobile Paint Crew, which services Districts 5, 6, and other structural steel paint crews statewide.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Lead Structural Steel Painters, Structural Steel Painters, and Structural Steel Painter Apprentices in rigging, cleaning, and painting structural cables, bridges, and related structures.
• Oversee inspection duties for contracted-out structural steel painting projects.
• Review statewide structural steel paint inspection reports.
• Serve as a paint consultant and draft painting contracts, special provisions, and painting standards.
• Prepare cost estimates for painting projects.
• Maintain the Vincent Thomas Bridge in District 7.
• Provide support to the District 7 Mobile Paint Crew and other structural steel paint crews across the state.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid and unrestricted Class A driver license with H (Hazardous Materials) and N (Tank Vehicle) endorsements.
• Pass a drug screening prior to hire.
• Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the STRUCTURAL STEEL PAINTER SUPERVISOR exam. Candidates without current eligibility (e.g., new to state civil service) must be on the state examination list.
• If basing eligibility on education, unofficial transcripts/diplomas must be provided. Foreign transcripts/degrees require a U.S. equivalency evaluation report.

Pay

$7,504.00 - $8,895.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
