Job Summary

SAFEbuilt is seeking a talented and experienced Structural Plan Review Engineer to join our dynamic team. This position offers opportunities to work on a variety of projects, providing comprehensive support to the development process.

Job Requirements

  • Review and evaluate structural construction documents submitted for approval using applicable codes/standards/guidelines/laws, appropriate municipal ordinances, and construction and engineering standards.
  • Determine review fees and authorize the release of approved documents for city permits.
  • Review structural engineering calculations for compliance with codes.
  • Provide timely oral and/or written communication detailing design and/or construction deficiencies in plans and specifications.
  • Direct and participate in design coordination meetings regarding private development projects and city, state, and regional capital improvement projects.
  • Assist inspectors with difficult or unusual code compliance issues and answer questions from inspectors about plan review comments.
  • Cultivate, foster, and maintain positive working relationships with directors, managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology.
  • Ability to interpret codes in the field and provide code compliant solutions.
  • Positive interaction with staff, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills.
  • Initiative and considerable independent judgment.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) by a State Board of Registration.
  • ICC Building Plans Examiner Certification (optional).
  • 3+ years of experience as a Licensed Professional Engineer working as a lead project engineer in the construction industry.
  • Experience performing wood-framed structural reviews.
  • Experience performing Commercial Building Plan Review (preferred).
  • Experience performing structural reviews for a municipality (preferred).
