About the role
AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer to support our Energy Practice’s Power Delivery Initiative. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely and at various Energy offices across the U.S.
Responsibilities
- Leading / Supporting engineering and design for substations, switchyards and other electrical infrastructure projects (both green and brown field)
- Performing engineering calculations and developing analytical models for both structural steel and concrete design
- Working with Project Engineers and Project Managers on workload forecasts, design schedules, and budgets for civil/structural work activities
- Contributing to proposal support by assisting with task and effort estimates
- Participating in the development of business strategies around substation and high voltage electrical infrastructure
- Coordinating with civil/structural design teams to ensure completion of engineering drawings
- Multidisciplinary collaboration on general arrangements, vendor procurement packages, and similar tasks
- Preparing technical reports and presentations explaining research, findings, and recommendations
- Preparation of project technical specifications and contract documents
- Checking and verifying work prepared by peers and groups
- Occasional travel to other AECOM locations and client sites may be required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience in substation design and civil/structural design for heavy industrial clients
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred
- Comprehensive knowledge of industry codes and standards such as NESC, G.O.95, ASCE 113, ASCE 10, ASCE 48, IEEE 605, IEEE 693, AISC 360, ASCE 7, IBC, ACI 318, RUS, ASCE design guidelines, NEC
- Experience in structural design for overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems
- Proficiency in PLS-CADD packages (PLS-Tower, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, etc.)
- Experience with structural analysis and design software (e.g. Staad.PRO, SAP2000, MFAD, L-Pile)
- Experience working with remote teams and full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish
- Owner’s Engineering experience preferred
- Experience with retrofit or brown field projects
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in structural design for overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems
- Experience with substation projects
- Preferred 6 years of experience
- Comprehensive industry codes and standards knowledge
- Experience in complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams
- Experience in 3D model environments and various voltage levels (4kV, 12kV, 138kV, 230kV, 500kV, etc.)
- Proficiency in PLS-CADD packages (PLS-Tower, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, etc.)
- Experience with structural analysis and design software (e.g. Staad.PRO, SAP2000, MFAD, L-Pile)
- Experience working with remote teams
- Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish
- Owner’s Engineering experience preferred
- Experience with retrofit or brown field projects
