About the role

The Senior Substation Civil/Structural Engineer position at Orbital is a REMOTE WORK position requiring technical leadership and oversight of substation engineering and consulting services for clients across the U.S. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in civil and structural engineering, with a preference for those who hold a Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) license.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize understanding of industry standards and guidelines to create civil and structural design deliverables for electric substation projects.
  • Lead and mentor teams of engineers and designers, providing technical support and guidance.
  • Prepare, provide guidance, or assist in preparing and developing engineering deliverables for electric substation projects.
  • Coordinate design activities with other disciplines and groups, including electrical design and project management.
  • Perform quality reviews for other engineers and designers, and conduct field visits for site walkdowns, constructability reviews, and other site meetings as needed.
  • Support business development and marketing initiatives, and participate in project conceptualization, work planning, and project execution.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management team to develop project plans and provide project updates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • Position to be filled at an appropriate level according to candidate experience (Master’s degree may be considered as part of total experience).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) registration strongly preferred.
  • Experience with structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and/or foundation design.
  • Working knowledge of STAAD or RISA analytical software or equivalent.
  • Experience in the Electric Utilities, Power Generation, Metals, Midstream Oil & Gas, Refineries, or Petrochemical industries is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize multiple complex assignments and competing priorities to produce accurate products on time.
  • Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills, and a successful record of positive interactions with clients.
  • Ability to lead staff, delegate assignments, and drive positive results.
  • Experience in creating and reviewing substation design drawings.
  • Proficient with current software applications used to perform substation design work.
  • Ability to successfully work with remotely located team members.
