Structural Engineer - Ports & Marine
About the role
The Port and Marine Terminals group at Stantec is seeking a Structural Engineer - Ports & Marine Terminals to join the Transportation Florida team. This position may be based in West Palm Beach, Deerfield Beach, Coral Gables, Miami, Tampa, and Jacksonville.
Responsibilities
- Work independently on projects of varying complexity.
- Collaborate with business centers, design groups, senior leadership, and specialists in other offices.
- Develop project work plans and ensure execution through oversight and management of the project team.
- Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all structural engineered systems or products for a project.
- Develop and guide the design process, including analysis, design, drawings, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Prepare and revise documentation through various project phases, including site plans, sections, diagrams, and details.
- Engage in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and cost estimating.
- Lead the preparation and coordination of project specifications with construction documents.
- Conduct constructability reviews.
- Ensure quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
- Prepare project reports and feasibility studies.
- Develop project scope, budgets, and design approach for all size projects.
- Aid in the development of proposals for port development projects.
Qualifications
- Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable port and marine terminals standards and guidelines.
- Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of marine structural systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.
- Experience with STAAD software for structural modeling.
- Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Participates and collaborates in project team settings and engages in creative and critical thought.
- Thorough understanding of structural engineering and port engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
- Strong written and verbal skills for interaction with project team, owners, and clients.
Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineering license, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- 5+ years of ports & marine civil and structural engineering design experience.
