Structural Engineer – Mid Level (Hybrid)

Barr is seeking a structural engineer to join our structural team in a hybrid role. You will support our structural engineering group by providing design and technical expertise for heavy industrial sites such as power plants, manufacturing, refineries, and mining facilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations and modeling for a variety of industrial and energy-related structures.
• Prepare engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design documentation.
• Contribute to project reports and help develop cost estimates for engineering solutions.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to observe construction activities and ensure compliance with design intent.
• Use structural engineering software (AutoCAD, Revit, Advanced Steel, MathCAD, Staad, Risa) to support project tasks and team collaboration.
• Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and project managers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis (including structural analysis and steel and concrete design).
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certified or ability to obtain within one year.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Excel, Revit, STAAD Pro, Advanced Steel, RISA 3D, or MathCAD.
• Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs (up to 30% travel and fieldwork possible).
• Ability to work in industrial environments with rough terrain, moving machinery, and varying outdoor conditions.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to conduct fieldwork in varying outdoor conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, uneven terrain).
• Must be able to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Capable of standing, walking, kneeling, or crouching for extended periods.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by site conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• 8+ years of related work experience.
• Master's degree in civil or structural engineering.
• Experience with 3D software such as Revit.
• Strong technical skills in structural analysis and design.
• Experience in the consulting industry.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated project organization and management skills.

Pay

Anticipated range of $85,000–$120,000 annually, based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance.

Schedule

• Hybrid work arrangement: split time between Barr’s Ann Arbor, Michigan, office and a home office.
